Campgrounds and RV parks are all over the country. The first choice you have to make is where you want to headfirst! Do you want to go to the mountains or to the beach? Are you looking for theme park adventures or trails in nature? You’re sure to find the perfect spot for your entire family. There’s also the public land option where you can camp in a national park.

Which RV Should You Buy?

This is a big investment and commitment. Once you’ve researched the type of RV you want and which size and budget fits your goals best, you can invest in the RV or motorhome that is going to best fit your needs. When you purchase an RV, there are a few things to consider:

  • Size of vehicle – You want to go with the size that you’re comfortable transporting but also fits your family.
  • Cost- What cost are you comfortable spending? Having a budget in place first helps you to comfortably enjoy your RV adventure. There’s also more to budget for than just the RV itself. From maintenance to paying fees at the sites, you want to know what cost to expect.

How Do I Plan My First Trip?

Planning your first adventure is easy to do when you know what to expect. Choose a location that fits your budget and interests to begin with. This allows you to be comfortable in the area while you’re learning the RV life. You need to budget for fees and costs that you will incur as a part of your travel as well.

Some parks have a variety of costs that you’ll be expected to pay once you arrive. It’s always a good idea to call ahead to your destination to find out the rules for their site as well. This prevents any issues when you arrive. You’ll find some parks offer a membership that will help cut costs for a variety of locations as well.

This means more than simply finding a destination and heading there. You want to carefully consider your options as the vehicle you’re taking is different than a regular road trip. What Items Should You Bring?

The items you should bring other than what you pack for a vacation include:

  • Gear that helps to maintain the safety of your RV while traveling. This could look like wheel or leveling blocks, a tire pressure gauge, and tool kit. This allows you to help take care of small issues along the way.
  • Generator – Even if your location you’re headed to has power hookups, you want to keep a generator with you for emergencies. Sometimes power goes out at the campsite, or they simply may not have hookups available. This means you’re ready to go no matter what happens.
  • Storage – Don’t forget to have some storage boxes on hand for items such as extra blankets, food, or other items you may need.
  • Activities – While there’s generally a lot to do at the site, you also want to have items to keep you busy should you have downtime. For example, items to go swimming with or play games while relaxing with the family.

  • Tire pressure before hitting the road.
  • Batteries – make sure they are charged, and you know where they are.
